Keeping Electrolux Professional Employees Safe with DeltaNet International’s Health and Safety eLearning

Electrolux Professional is one of the leading global providers of food service, beverage, and laundry for professional users. Its solutions and products are manufactured in 13 plants in seven countries and sold in over 110 countries. In the UK, the organisation employs a mix of field service and sales professionals and back-office staff who must maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.

Despite splitting the commercial division from its parent company, Electrolux Plc – the approach to learning and development needed to stay the same. This included putting health and safety priorities first. Among their top priorities was to identify the health and safety training needs for the different teams. Then to deliver that training to ensure employees remained compliant and safe whilst performing their roles and responsibilities.

Working within the commercial industry, the training team must ensure employees conform with health and safety legislation to meet industry accreditations such as SafeContractor, Constructionline and Altius. The field engineers have numerous health and safety legislation they must comply with, including the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), manual handling, asbestos management and electrical safety. Back-office staff, however, who work both in the office and at home due to the pandemic, must understand the importance of mitigating office-based risk, e.g., fire safety, display screen equipment (DSE) assessments, and slips and trips.

“Having industry accreditations is very important to us. It proves that we are always working in compliance with health and safety regulations, which is why our employees must complete mandatory health and safety training every year,” said Mick Christian, Regional Training and Development Manager at Electrolux Professional.

DeltaNet International is a global eLearning provider of compliance, performance and health and safety training courses created to mitigate risks and improve employee performance. DeltaNet provides high-quality and engaging content for training, created by educators and industry experts, to help compliance, health and safety and training managers to improve people compliance, develop good behaviours and build outstanding cultures across their organisations.

“We chose DeltaNet due to the range of health and safety courses it offers, which could meet the needs of our employees. We also felt that it offered additional training topics such as safeguarding and mental health, which will continue to support and improve our employees’ wellbeing,” said Mick.

Electrolux Professional worked with DeltaNet International’s support team to tune the health and safety training requirements to the needs of different departments across the business. As a result of the pandemic, the roll-out of the Display Screen Equipment (DSE) course to back-office employees working remotely – meant it was much easier to carry out the twice-a-year health and safety audit and risk assessments on employees.

“Making sure that workstations are set up correctly for remote workers is important in maintaining compliance with our homeworking policy. After we rolled out the DSE training course to ensure all employees learnt what the right workstation set-up should include, we did the audit to check in on our employees. It was great to see how many employees gained awareness and listened to the training – I have had employees sending me photos of their home workstations to show everything has been set correctly,” said Mick.

Throughout the implementation process, the support team provided excellent service. “It was great to know that there was always someone at the end of a call or an email to answer any questions I had,” added Mick.

The impact of the training has been significant. Feedback from employees regarding DeltaNet’s eLearning courses is that they are straightforward to use and truly simplify the training – making it easy to understand.

“What stood out for me with DeltaNet International’s courses is the understanding and awareness of health and safety topics it provides to our employees. Hearing our employees discuss the course and what they learnt from it is incredible, for example, how asbestos can affect one’s health. Leveraging that level of employee engagement is critical when rolling out mandatory health and safety training,” said Mick.

Using DeltaNet’s learning experience platform (LXP), Astute, allowed the training team to access up-to-date data to constantly monitor employees who have and haven’t completed training, setting internal deadlines for completion of training within two weeks. The use of data available has resulted in the effective use of time for the training team and has meant Electrolux Professional can maintain compliance to continue gaining accreditations.
