As we are now on countdown to World of Learning at the end of the month I am getting very excited!

This will be the seventh year that I have attended and it is certainly a milestone event in my calendar every year and gives me a real boost! It’s great to see what everyone is doing and there is always lots of innovation and inspiration in store!

I am looking forward to presenting as part of the exhibition seminars on Mindfulness. Having done a great deal of research around the very topical subject of resilience, Mindfulness is an area that can make a significant impact for people who need to manage stress levels.

There has also been a great deal of focus on mental health and depression in the last few weeks, especially with the very sad and recent suicide of Robin Williams.  Each year a quarter of the population in Britain will experience a mental health problem, with 2.6 in 100 people suffering from depression. The World Health Organization estimates that by 2020, depression will be the second biggest global form of illness worldwide.

This obviously has a big impact on sickness absenteeism and the need to support wellbeing in the workplace as well as supporting people to manage home and work life.

I am also very much looking forward to this year because “The Learning Architect” will be launching it’s new flagship event “Team Tonic” with our partner company “Rockitfish”. This sits within the Inspiration Zone at the exhibition, where visitors can get practical advice through interactive attractions like ours.

The three areas that Team Tonic will focus on are:

The Team Tonic Experience

It has been very exciting developing “The Team Tonic Experience” and I will be delivering a presentation to share some of the research findings around positive people engagement using case examples.

Some the key content will involve the importance of challenging toxic behavior in organizations and how to ultimately cultivate a tonic environment.

Positive psychology and the need for individuals to be more positive, resilient and agile is key. Embracing change is vital to business survival and in a world that is increasingly affected by “Mobility and Technology” it is important that change is embraced as a way of life and not resisted. That’s modern living!

The real key however to engagement from my observation is about inclusivity and making sure that everyone sees the meaning in what they do and knowing that they can make a difference. If everyone makes the effort to take on board something positive and progressive by critical mass that will create a power – house for organizations.

So really involving, energizing and enthusing your people will be just the tonic!

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
